If you’re afraid that acupuncture will be painful, don’t worry. It actually doesn’t hurt at all. While you have probably felt pain from the thick needles used by doctors for vaccinations and other things, acupuncture needles are much thinner. It’s difficult to feel anything at all when acupuncture needles are inserted in your skin. – Dr. Bennett
Acupuncture is not a painful process at all. The needles are very thin. From a few feet away, the needles are practically invisible. There is a bit of discomfort at the start, but generally, the treatments have been called relaxing.
When attending an acupuncture session, make sure that you wear clothing that is loose and comfortable. Your acupuncturist needs to be able to reach the areas that are bothering you. If you go to an acupuncture treatment center, your session will take place among a group and it is best to wear loose clothes.
Do your homework on the web. Read online reviews, and contact the BBB to check if they have any open cases against them. Your diligence will pay off in the long run.
Never stop your treatment in the middle of a program. Just like any form of medication, you don’t want to stop your treatments half way. You may see great results sooner than you expect but this is not an excuse to finish up early. Allow the prescribed treatment length to run its course and then you can determine how your body has coped with it all.
Don’t wear clothes that are too tight. Loose clothes make it easier for everyone. Loose clothing will provide easier access for placing the needles. Certain sessions may be in a group format, where clothing stays on.
Ask how long each treatment will last for. Usually, each acupuncture session is 30 minutes long. However, if you are being treated for many health issues, it could be longer. Don’t make plans for an appointment immediately following acupuncture treatment. It is best to simply rest and relax.
Though acupuncture usually does not hurt, it is hard to tell how you will feel until you have an initial session. Some people claim they experience no pain; however, others claim they do experience some pain. Everyone differs in their approach and opinion, so you need to see for yourself. Let your acupuncturist know if you feel pain and he or she will try another technique. Our approach is very comfortable here at Bennett Acupuncture and Functional Medicine. Actually many feel a cool blue calmness and energy after the first acupuncture visit.
